Jan Kagie 1901-1991. Grew up in Drenthe, he received painting lessons from his father. Initially painted figurative landscapes and still lifes. He became friends with Anton Heyboer, they traveled to France together. In 1949 Kagie exchanged Drenthe for Amsterdam and changed his style from figurative to abstract. The painting shown here comes from the Rijkscollection.
