Rudi Bierman 1921-1972, was an expressionist painter who forged his own path alongside other dominant art movements. His starting point was a figurative expressionism, which gives his work the impression of constantly balancing between abstraction and figuration. As a teacher (from 1964) at the Academie Minerva in Groningen, he influenced the formation of a younger generation of Groningen painters.
