Miette (Emilie) Braive (1916-2000) *Belgium. She studied classical painting in Belgium, but left for Paris almost immediately after her studies. There she took lessons at the academy of the French artist André L'Hote. She worked with L'Hote for the first two decades and exhibited with him. Because she was rather small, L'Hote called her Miette instead of Emilie, her real name. Miette literally means 'crumb'. She would sign her paintings with Miette from then on. The influence of L'Hote has always remained visible in her work; a lively palette, with subjects ranging from pure, non-objective abstract, cubist paintings and gouaches.
