Otto van Rees 1884-1957, played an important role in the renewal of Dutch art in the first half of the 20th century. In 1904 the young painter moved to Paris where he became friends with artists such as Kees van Dongen, Pablo Picasso, Juan Gris and Georges Braque. Here he witnessed the latest developments in modern art. In 1915 he himself was at the cradle of Dadaism. Because his work was always on display at exhibitions in the Netherlands he exerted a great influence on young artists in the Netherlands.
